Stop Signs can be a very effective tool in controlling traffic flow. Conversely, a stop sign placed at an inappropriate location can result in an increase in rates of accidents. There are specific guidelines that must be met before a stop sign can be installed. These guidelines have been developed by the Federal Highway Administration during decades of analysis and research.
